About the show
Immediately after the 1989 revolution, many Romanians decided they were not going to wait to see what would happen to their country. They needed distance. So they uprooted themselves and settled in other countries that promised more than the absences of the last communist decade: no food, no heat, no freedom.
Now, 35 years later, living conditions have improved, but the absence is of bodies that have not yet returned. They send money home, vote and call us, but their bodies are nowhere to be found in contemporary Romania. This performance is a participatory experience that tells the story of these bodies, their searches, their joys, their pains and their absence. It is a story that cannot be told without the presence of these bodies on stage. A story of an untranslatable word that Romanians cannot forget. A story about everything we cannot forget.
